Safety:

As the trebuchet was originally used for the destruction of castle walls, there is the problem of safety while working with it. The first rule to follow was that no one ever used the trebuchet by his or her self. The experiment was always conducted with a partner. As well, once the counterweight reached 50 lbs., both partners helped to lower the arm in order to ensure that no one lost control. The path of the counterweight was kept clear, as it was the most dangerous area. The trebuchet was never fired until the area downrange had been cleared. Children were not allowed near the trebuchet.
